Zoo Negara Pt1

Corner Talk: Today is public holiday in Selangor state. It is the Sultan's birthday, so college is officially closed for training today. That's why I have some free time to write for my blog. Sorry for the lack of update over the past few days. I have been busy with my packed schedules. Last night UEFA Champion League game, ManUtd had to be happier than never after settled for a 2-2 draw with AaB Alborg of Denmark in Old Trafford. They could have been humiliated by the visitors if not for Wayne Rooney who scored the equalizer in the start of second half.

Continuing from previous post, if anyone of you couldn't guess where we had been for our college's field trip in the month of October, never mind, good try after all, but if you manage to guess it correctly, then, my congratulation is with you.

Yup, we went to Zoo Negara (National Zoo of Malaysia)
Zoo Negara is a zoological park located at
Ulu Klang, near Taman Melawati, Kuala Lumpur.
A bus ride of 45 minutes took us there.
Zoo Negara was officially opened to the public
on 14th November 1963.
The park is managed by a non-governmental organization (NGO)
known as the Malaysian Zoological Society.

The reason we were there is not for visiting, but ...
as a Zoo Negara Volunteer
Our job is to assist the zoo keepers
with their daily chores, such as,
cleaning the animal' cages, feed the animals,
so on and forth.
Whatever the zoo keepers need to do,
we must do as well.
That's for guys, as for the ladies,
they are much more luckier.
They will do light jobs such as
selling tickets in the counters and
preparing animals' diet in the kitchen

Girls in the kitchen
Animals' diets consist of various veggies,
cabbages, carrots, long beans, papayas,
bananas, grass, yams, potatoes and breads.
The kitchen manager is responsible to
provide balance and healthy diet for
all the 5137 animals of 459 different species
every day early in the morning.
Woah, huge task!!
After all the food were segregrated and
placed into packages,
it will be transported around the zoo
by using a lorry ...

Tea time for breakfast ...
~ Chicken Burger ~
Rather expensive just to pay
RM 3.00 for a short moment of tastes!
Not so delicious compares to Burger's Ramlee,
but no choice,
I was defeated by hunger.
Lolz :)

After our voluntary works, we were given free time
to roam around the zoo, see see look look
and take pictures, of course ...

It was definitely our day,
since it was weekend plus school holiday,
we had once in an opportunity
to watch the Animals' Performance

This multi-color parrot was trying to "slam dunk" a ball

A young sea lion was playing with flying hoods
Can you see it is so excited and happy?
It was swinging its paddle like fins
as if it was clapping hands ...

Jump through the ring ...
Splash! Splash! Splash!

Doing High Jump ...
A young sea lion is said to be able
to jump few meters high.
That's amazing ...

This sleepy and lazy sea lion seem to be reluctant
to do any performance ...
After much persuasion by its trainer,
it was proud and happier to
perform for the crowds.

It picked a basketball with its nose from the pool ...

... and ended the show with its trademark "slam dunk"
Even Jay Chou can't do this with his nose
in the movie, Kung Fu Dunk ...
Haha :)

More pictures coming up from the zoo ...
Be right back soon

Gonna study for Module 4,
got to pen off now.

See you then,
cHeErS,
KeithK :)
