Fuel Transfer

This afternoon, I have learned something new; probably one of best examples where both Mechanical (A&C) and Avionics (E&I) LAEs are required to collaborate in a task. It was already 5pm, all my friends had long gone home, leaving Wen Jie and I behind. Sobbed! T.T Actually, we went into the hangar production lines ( a place where an aircraft is MROed ... ) to be KPC (kepochi) and see-see look-look. We met Mr Arvin in HPL 07, and we started to chat. We were fortunate as he taught us how to transfer fuel from one tank to another. This aircraft, a B747-400 has 4 main tanks, 2 on both wings, 2 reserve tanks, 1 on both sides, and 1 surge tank in each wing. By right, we shall refer to AMM for the correct procedures during the process, but to cut short the story, here how it is carried out, for instance transferring fuel from tank 1 to reserve tank 2:

1)Select Reserve Tank 2 Shuttle Valve open
2)Close Shuttle Valve Tank 2
3)Switch On the Booster Pump Tank 1 in the cockpit
4)Observe the rate of flow of fuel through indicators in Cockpit
5)Observe the fuel quantity in each tank through indicators in fuel control panel,
located at below left wing
6)Pay attention to the sounds of the booster pumps running
7)Switch Off Booster Pump Tank 1 after all the fuel has been transferred
8)Close the Shuttle Valve for Reserve Tank 2

Basically, these are some of the procedures that we should do. Reference should be made to AMM for more detailed information. Haha, really enjoy working with these LAEs, they are friendly and willingly to teach us. Hope to learn more in future ...
