A poem from you ...

God gave this world to you and me,
it is priceless,
yet it is also free.
Its beauty is beyond compared,
and He left it in our care.
Everyday begins anew,
like a rose sparkling with the dew,
they blossom in the morning sun,
and bloom until the day is done.
A little seed becomes a tree,
and it gives shades to you and me.
Every creature great and small,
the Lord above has made them all;
bears, kangaroos and dolphins.
All share this world with you and me.
High above us in the sky,
we watch the silver clouds go by.
They bring the gentle wind our way,
and the rainbows to brighten up our days
God gave this world to you and me,
He lits the stars above,
by seeing all the things He made,
that's when we know God loves us so much ...

Get well soon, Wen Jie

This morning, one of my colleagues, Wen Jie was confirmed to be diagnosed with dengue fever after undergoing a series of blood test in the medical centre. The blood test has validated his blood platelet count has dropped significantly to confirm to this illness. Dengue fever is transmitted to human through Aedes mosquitoes which carry a virus, Flavivirus. To my surprise, he told me he was bitten by mosquitoes in Sunway Pyramid. Guess these high class mosquitoes must be searching its victims at high class areas nowadays.

Early symptoms of dengue fever include severe headache, muscle and joint pains, fever and rash. However, patients with dengue can pass on the infection only through mosquitoes or blood products and only while they are still under fever condition. So far, there is no any effective treatment on dengue, except patients are advised to increase the intake of oral fluid in order to prevent dehydration. For more information on dengue, click here ...

Just a quote for you all, especially to Wen Jie,

A cheerful heart is a good medicine -
Proverbs 17:22

Laughter promotes good health, both in body and spirit. It not only brightens your mood but also eases tension. A good dose of laughter has been shown to improve blood circulation, stimulate digestion, lower blood pressure and prompt the brain to release the pain-enduring endorphins. Laughter is also an expression of faith in God - it is the best response you can make to your own human frailties as you strive to live a happy life.

Do something for your health today - laugh!!

So are you all laughing now?

Yes? No?

Hope this will make you laugh ...
Haha :)

We all pray for you to get well soon
Take care!

Always,
KeithK :)

Ewin in Gasoline

Two weeks ago, it was Ewin's 20th birthday. Yeah, finally, no longer teen now. From the first year of training together, we have been celebrating each other birthday together; Wen Jie, our "tai lo", Daniel, Ewin and me. September was my birthday, October was Daniel's and then November was Ewin's. Wen Jie's birthday will be a little gap apart; his is on February.

The birthday boy, Ewin ...
13th November 2008,
he is officially 20 of ages

Gasoline
We have chosen Gasoline Restaurant at
Sunway Pyramid for the party.
Situated in Sunway Asian Avenue,
Gasoline is a shipyard-concept restaurant which
serves variety of western and Asian cuisines.
The environment inside was rather dark,
the serving rooms were unique,
as these rooms were decorated
in such of a wooden ship's cabin.
No chairs, but sitting on floor as if
you were dining in a Japanese Restaurant.

It's time for food ...
Are you hungry now?
If that the case,
please do not scroll down!
Haha :)

Eternal Fire Flame
A mixture of ice-shake
with "asam boi", lime and
vanilla ice-cream.
You can feel your whole
body shivering in shock
as you gulp down your throat,
what to say, it is so SOURLY
However, it was the
high level of sourly that
makes it outstanding

Chocolate Mocha
Mixture of chocolate brownies
with the aromatic
Arabic Mocha Coffee.
On top of it,
a spoonful of cream adds to
its tastiness.
A sip of it will be sufficient
to keep you awake all
night long ...

Fried Triangular Popiah
One of the side dishes we have ordered

Fried Onion Rings
I love this,
crispy and delicious,
too bad, it came in small portion.
It's licking fingers good!!

Honey BBQ Chicken Wings
It was served quite late,
we couldn't manage to finish
them as we were already
full up till our head

Gasoline Chicken Chop with Fries and Colesaw
Huge portion for the price
we paid.
Taste wise, not
so much with ordinary chicken chop

Kung Po Chicken Rice
3 words to describe this food,
Spicy, Sweet and Sour ...
The rice is soft and of
fragrant rice, overall,
it is another thumb-up!

Fish and Chips in Mushroom Sauce

Chocolate Bownies Cake
with White Chocolate
Woaahh, solid chocolate, man!
Anyone wanna a bite?
One of my colleague
sold it for RM 40
at a size of 8 inches diameter width
Contact me if you are interested

Happy Birthday to you,
Happy Birthday to you,
Happy Birthday to Ewin,
Happy Birthday to you ...
"Say a wish before you blow your candles!"

Can you spot any similarity in this picture?
We were all wearing the same colour shirts that night -
RED,
very ONG red colour ...
It wasn't plan, it was just merely coincident.
Haha :)
That's the value of our friendship ...
Priceless!

These pictures were slightly different
from those pictures I took previously.
Why?
I purposely create "shadowing effects"
under low light and very dark condition
with a Flash Gun.
The result was awesome,
thanks to Ewin's tip.
Try it out ...
It is cool!!

45 minutes in Airport ...

Heathrow Airport, London is recognized as the world most busiest airport with average of one aircraft taking off and lands at every two seconds. Engineering crews who work in airport ( or what we call " line " ) belong to a department known as apron Servicing Unit (ASU). In my last post, I introduce about B737 with some descriptions of its background, and for this post, I will share about the maintenance tasks that need to be performed, not only by ASU but from various departments, during the aircraft is in-transit mode.

This B737 is on transit from KLIA to KCH. As you can see, there are lots of crews working on this aircraft. Each aircraft should be cleared for take-off after line maintenance in about 45 minutes. Delaying aircraft must be avoided as far as we are concerned, because MAS is a 5 Stars airlines which provides 5 Stars services. Our formula, delay = loss of profits!! Haha :)

A pilot and an engineer are doing a walk-around checks, particularly visual inspection on airframe. Common inspection includes, checking for nose landing gears and main landing gears condition, clearing defects in MR1 or MR2, checking for leakage (fuel, water, hydraulic), checking for security of various panels on airframe and etc ... To prevent any negligence, there is a Transit Checklist that need to be completed and signed off before the aircraft is released into service.

Cargo Department is responsible for the transition and loading of your cargoes. B737 has two cargo compartments, one forward and one aft at the lower right hand fuselage with capacity of 1,373 ft³ (38.9 m³).

Fuel for aircraft is of high quality kerosene, known as JET-A1 fuel. Usually, underground fuel pipes allow refueling without the need of tank truck. Truck is only used to carry necessary hoses and pressure apparatus, but not fuel. Refueling is done by connecting fuel hose to a manifold under the right wing, while pressure from the tanker will supply fuel directly into aircraft fuel tank ( usually wing tank is filled first) Fueling is a dangerous activity due to the accumulation of statics charges as the aircraft flies through the sky. If these statics charges are not dissipated before refueling, an electric arc can occur which may ignite fuel vapors. Therefore, grounding of aircraft and tankers is compulsory as a safety measure. Fire extinguishers must be present within aircraft's vicinity during refueling.

Food and drinks are loaded into the aircraft's galley by the catering service provider. The food are pre-cooked, so the cabin crews will require to heat them up during flight by using the ovens. The B737 consists of two galleys, one forward for business class and an aft galley for economy class.

Once everything is done, the passengers will board into the aircraft. A tow-tug will be used to push-back the aircraft to runway for taxying and then take-off as instructed by the control tower (ATC). Note: A B737 require tow-tug of this kind, bigger aircraft such as B747, B777 and A330 will need a high-powered tow-tug for push-back. LAE will sign off to certify the airworthiness of flight before aircraft is allowed to fly. That's will be my future career ... Huge responsibility, I must admit that!!

I hope you have learned something from this post. Aircraft Maintenance Engineering is rare in the eyes of public. What they know, is, oh yes, the pilots fly the aircraft!! Neither they knew, Engineers play a huge role too in ensuring the airworthiness of flight. Since Kuching does have any base maintenance, so in future, if I wish to transfer back, I will need to work in ASU. Base maintenance will perform heavy maintenance tasks in hangar, unlike in line maintenance. I would say working in ASU will be more hectic and stressful, considering the time constraints with the amount of workloads. Furthermore, you will need to be really good and expert in trouble-shooting defects in any particular aircraft's systems, otherwise, you will be the one to be blamed for delaying the flight. Serious, this is not a joke!!

Well, that's all from me. If you any questions regarding this posts, please feel free to share with me. I will try my best to clear your doubts. To all my colleagues, if I did wrote any mistakes in this post, please let me know ASAP. I will make correction for it and learn them at the same time.

Shots beside runway ...

Module 4 Electronics started yesterday. The whole duration of this module is expected to be completed by next month, before Christmas holiday break. We study about what is diode, transistors, circuit boards and servomechanisms. I wish I could have more consistent classes, not for only 3 or 4 hours everyday.

Can anyone makes a guess of what aircraft is this?

Yup, you're correct :)
It is a Boeing 737-400.

This B737-400 is a narrowed body, single aisle aircraft which is designed for short-to-medium haul flight. This aircraft made its maiden flight in 1968, and since, about 5800 units have been rolled out from the factory. With aircraft's length of 119 ft 6 inches (36.5 m) from nose to tail, and wing-to-wing length (wingspan) of 94 ft 8 inches (28.9 m), this Ma lay si a Ai rli ne s' B737 is able to accommodate 144 passengers in two classes seats, business and economy class, excluding cabin crews. Powered by two engines of CFM 56-3b-2 with 22 000 lbs ( 98kN), typical B737 can fly up to maximum speed of 544 mph or 876 km/h. Normal cruising altitude ranges between 30 000 feets to 37,000 feets. Ma laysi a Ai rli ne s' B737 fleets comprises of 37 units whereby these old fleets are soon to be replaced by the New Generation (NG) of B737-800 by September 2010. For more information on B737, click here and here.

Some tips to all of you on how to identify a B737. For Malaysia Airlines, all their B737 fleets bear a registration number of 9 M-M M#. Example, the picture above shows a B737 with a registration number of 9 M-M M N. This aircraft entered Subang hangar before during my practical period; I did some maintenance tasks inside the cabin with Ewin. Kinda excited to meet her gain in KLIA. Haha :)

Apart from that, its engine cowling is painted with black and clear wording of Boeing 737 to indicate her identity. Observe the second picture.

Next, older version of B737 has " eyebrow windows " as shown in the picture below. It is said that these windows are able to increase crews' visibility during flight. However, in the newer version of B737, the NGs, these windows are found to be obsolete and have been removed since.
The red arrow indicates the location of the " eyebrow windows ".

Here is the combo pictures I shot in KLIA last month. Processed them into a Graphic Interchange Format (GIF) file. Thanks to Ewin for the helps. It may take a while to load. Please be patient. Enjoy ...

Coming up next,
What are the maintenance actions required when an aircraft is on transit in airport?

DIY your own Sushi ...

Do you know it is kinda hard and tiring for our mum to cook a set of balance diet for a family everyday? Just figuring what to cook; vegetables, fish or meats will be troublesome, what to say if the kids dislike certain food or prefer different ways of cooking. Such an uphill task. Then, suddenly, daddy says' " Let's go dinner outside tonight! " The kids will be shouting in excitement, while mummy will be wondering how she supposes to get rip of the food prepared earlier. Wasted the food, effort and time of your mum, don't you feel bad? Will I do. Even if I were to hang-out with my friends, I will ensure I come back home for my meal if my mum has prepared my share, otherwise I will inform her not to prepare my food.

That's just an example of a scenario occurred in every family, I believe, once in awhile. Haha. Well, I have to say my mum is always being a creative woman who sort things out. Not too say, she is well-talented in cooking and bakery, she is indeed a whole and complete person who gives me endless love with her burning passion and everlasting cares. Do you know how my mum solves the problem when dad is taking us out for dinner? Haha. She makes the cooked rice into SUSHI ... Yup, Sushi!!

Sushi (寿司), originarly from the counrty of the Sun, Japan, is a dish made of rice, usually topped with other ingredients, including fish, various meats, and vegetables. There are different types of sushis, such as makizushi (roll type), nigirizushi, narizushi and chirashi-zushi (sushi rice in bowl). Out of all these types, the makizushi or the roll type is the most favourite among us. Today, this post is specially to all my respected readers, a simple step-by-step on how to DIY your own sushis at home.

Let's get started ...

First, the ingredients,
Sushi Rice
Nori ( Seaweed wrappers)
Egg Omelet
Cucumber
Carrot
Kani Kama ( imitation crab stick )
Sausage
Meat Floss
Sugar
Salt
Pepper
Rice Vinegar

Sushi Rice
You can use home cook rice as sushi for simplicity,
however, other alternatives include,
brown rice and fragrant rice.
The rice must be cooled to room temperature
before being used for a filling in a sushi.
Mix the rice well with sufficient sugar, salt, pepper
and few tea-spoons of rice vinegar.
Not too much of vinegar,
otherwise it will be too soury ...

Meat Floss for filling ...
Note: This is a non-halal ingredient.
This is also a short-cut too if
you are lazy to prepare the meats filling.
Some simple filling may be of
sardine or tuna in mayo,
raw sashimi from hypermarket,
ham, shrimp and
Kani- Kama
( imitation of crab stick)

Sausage and Egg Omelet
To prepare Egg Omelet,
beat thoroughly the eggs in a
bowl with a spoon.
Add a munch of salt and ajinomoto as seasoning.
Fried them in thin sheet layers with a
non-sticky pan on slow gas flame.
Cut the Egg Omelet into small pieces as shown.
The sausage can be oil-fried
or steamed with clear water.

Preserved Vegetables
Mainly consists of Cucumber, Chilies, Carrots and
Gingers mix with rice vinegar.
Commonly known as " acar " in households,
this preserved vegetable is usually served in
Chinese family to be eaten with keropok
during Chinese New Year.
If you don't have " acar ",
you can opt to try sweetcorn mixed with mayo,
fermented soybeans or pickles vegetables

Spread the sushi rice on the seaweed wrapper
with a wooden cutting block supporting beneath,
and subsequently,
place the fillings on top of the sushi rice as shown.
The amount of rice to be used must be balance,
otherwise your sushi roll will be out-of-shape.

Roll the sushi up with the seaweed wrapper.
As you roll, compress the sushi rice from
the top and side to form out the round circular shape.

The end result will be looking something like this

Cut them into small pieces of about 1 inches of thickness.
Note: Your knife must be sharp enough to have the sushi nicely-cut.
Beware of your fingers during cutting.

Tata ...
The sushi is ready to be served

So far, how do you find the tutorial? Isn't them useful tips for you all? I strongly agree this is a manageable and practical solution to prevent food wastage in households. If anyone of you have any questions regarding the tutorial, feel free to nudge me or drop me a comment. I will reply you as soon as possible. For those who decide to give a try for this sushi, remember to inform me as well. I am looking forward to your feedback. Haha ...

Happy Trying Out ...
Best Wishes,
KeithK :)

Ronaldo's double sinks Stoke City

Ronaldo's 100th and 101st goals for Manchester United from both sensational free kicks outside the box ensures The Red Devils continue to pile pressures on the current league's leader, Liverpool and Chelsea. With Arsenal were downed by Aston Villa in Emirates Stadium, ManUtd's win has taken them over The Gunner to 3rd position in the table. Meanwhile, Liverpool maintained to stay atop after goal from Dirk Kuyt and captain Steven Gerrard gave them a victory over Bolton at Anfield.

Ronaldo's brace and one assist played a game of its own as Stoke City defenders failed to deter him from roaming freely inside their territory. Michael Carrick was on target, alongside Dmitar Berbatov and first time debut, a 17 years old striker Danny Welbeck recorded their names on the score sheet. ManUtd played brilliant football with short passes with swirl counter-attacks mainly engineered by Ronaldo's talented footworks. Rio Ferdianrd and Wayne Rooney did not feature in this game, thus Ronaldo's presence was making huge difference to ManUtd.

Definitely, this has to be one of the most exciting game for this season. A sweet revenge against the Gunners as well. Haha :) Coming up next game, ManUtd will have to face Aston Villa who had just defeated Arsenal. ManUtd needs to brush up and win games more consistently if they are to retain the premiership title.

Berbatov struck in ManUtd's third goal

Glory ManUtd, Glory!!

KeithK :)

Concluding Langkawi's Trip

This is gonna be the final post for my Langkawi's trip in October. To continue from where we stop from the previous post, click here. After our fun time in Pantai Chenang, we ventured into our next destination, the iconic landmark in Langkawi, the Eagle Square.

The Eagle Square is a sprawling
19-acre landmark
located to the front left of the
new Jetty Mall Complex in Kuah.
The imposing 12-meter tall statue of the brown eagle
can be clearly seen from the air or from the sea.
The eagle statue sits high at the centre
of a massive star-shaped
(if seen from the air) concrete platform
that juts out to the sea.
The square comprises the eagle statue,
a high-roofed pavilion where events are held
and kiosks selling anything
from multiple local delicacies to souvenirs.
It was raining by the time
we reached there later in the afternoon.
I suppose the scenic sea view beside the Kuah Jetty
would be magnificent,
however drizzling rain deters us
from taking good shots ...

On our way back to the hotel, we stopped by a Thai Restaurant for dinner. The food served there were very much satisfactory, with large portion at reasonable price. Most importantly, they taste superbly delicious!

Fried Chicken wrapped in Pandan Leaves
The chicken was crispy,
the aromatic Pandan smell
mixed well and fully absorbed
into the chicken after
deep-fried ...

Sweet and Sour Prawns

The main dish - Seafood Tom Yam Soup
Its spiciness and sourness was marvelous!
The soup itself will be another excuses
for you to order another bowl of rice

Thai Fried Cuttlefish

The next morning, it was still
raining cats and dogs outside.
Didn't manage to go elsewhere,
besides staying indoor nearby the
hotel's compound areas.
We did another last minutes
shopping spree before we
drove to the airport.
Why not?
The chocolates and liquors
are all duty-exempted.
Grab the chances to buy more,
and more and more!!

Random

This will be a short post. I believe some of you may have been tired of reading my lengthy posts recently. Haha :)

To my younger beloved sister, Karen ... Wish her all the best for her SPM examinations which has just begun over the last three days. Hope she will be able to do well and pass the exams with flying colours. God, please grant her your wisdom and guide her throughout the whole duration of examinations. Jia yu, Jia yu!! :)

This sheep reminds me of her
It was one of her birthday's present
Hehe
If you tap the sheep's head slowly,
it will oscillate up and down ...
Woaah, very cute!!
(",)

This morning, 5 of us, including me went to M A S Complex A to transfer 17 first class and business class seats into our college. The seats are heavy and bulky, each seat module which comprises of 2 and 3 seaters require 4 of us to carry at all the sides before we can move it. Since M A S has decided to upgrade their first class and business class seats which are known as SuperPot and MiniPot respectively, these old-fashioned seats have been replaced. Flying 5 Stars Airline with 5 Stars Service bah ... Our college has now taken over it as training materials for our practical in future. Took us the whole morning to complete the task, and thanks goodness, we managed to settle everything by lunch hour. Phewww ...

Today is also my collegue, Ewin's 20th birthday. Finally, you are no longer a teen now!! Wish him a happy blessed birthday. Have an enjoyable celebration. You can party all night long, but make sure you don't sleep in class tomorrow. Lolz :)

I like this toy / keychain ...
Anyone of you know where to get?
It actually belongs to
my buddy, Chung Ann.
Spotted it inside his car,
couldn't own it,
so might as well,
captured down this photo.

These are the lists of items
which I hope/want to get
by the end of this year:
1)Flash Gun?
2)External Hard disk / thumb drive?
3)Earphone (2 sets, maybe?)

Hope Santa Claus would read
my wish lists so that
he could send me
an early Christmas present.
Lolz :)

Alright,
have to make a move now,
God bless,

Good night,
KeithK :)

Visit to National Planetarium Centre

Last month October Saturday activity was indifferent, instead of the typical " kawad " session or the Volleyball vs Football game, we made a trip down to National Planetarium Centre in Kuala Lumpur. Pak Abu, our college bus driver took us there as early at 900 am in the morning. Situated on top of the hill in the Lake Gardens at Jalan Perdana, KL, it was quite a far distance from college. The trip to National Planetarium took us 45 minutes, including some minor traffic congestion here and there. At the first sight, you will observe a blue-domed structure upon arrival at the hillside, thinking that it is a mosque, but at a closer look, it is actually the Planetarium building.

Planetarium Centre was built and
completed by 1993.
The former Prime Minister,
Tun Dato Seri Mahathir Mohamad
officially launched the centre to
public on 7th February 1994.
The Planetarium is opened from
10am to 4pm in the afternoon,
except on Monday.
Entrance fee is RM1 for student with ID,
RM2 for children and RM3 for adults.

Center of the Solar System - the Sun
Consists mainly of hydrogen and helium
gas on the surface,
the Sun is generating sunlight
to support all lifes on Earth
via photosynthesis and
drives the Earth's climate and weather.
Do you that,
sunlight actually takes
8 minutes and 17 seconds to reach Earth?
Traveling at the speed of 3 times ten to the power eight
meter per second,
by using the distance formula, s = ut,
the mean distance from Sun to Earth
will be 1.5 times to power of eleven meters ...

This is a miniature of Ariane IV Space Rocket
Manufactured by European,
this rocket is launched to space at
Guaina Space Centre, France
where its proximity to the equator
gives a significant advantage for the launch
Ariane Rocket is a three stage launcher derived
from the missile technology.
In the year of January 1996,
this rocket was used to launch
our country's very first satellite,
the MEASAT 1 to outer space.

View of International Space Station (ISS) from the window
A Space Station is an artificial structure
designed for humans to live in outer space.
Orbiting at an altitude of approximately 350 km,
above the surface of the Earth,
ISS serves as a research lab for scientists.
The main fields of research includes biology,
physics, astronomy and meteorology.
Currently, ISS is carrying out experiment
on long-term effects of microgravity on humans

Viking Rocket Engine
Developed in 1973, this engine is able
to produce thrust of about 40 metric tons.
The version used on Ariane 4 first stage,
which clustered four together,
had 667 kN thrust each.
The second stage of Ariane uses a single Viking.
Over 1000 units were built,
and because of this machine,
rockets manage to penetrate through the
thick atmospheric layers into outer space

This looks similar to our aircraft's cockpit ...
Display units, warning lights,
various switches and indicators
can be seen here

Who's he?
Could he be The Father of Science - Galileo Galilei?
There weren't any descriptions for this stone sculpture,
so I couldn't confirm his identity.
He looked to be one of the
famous Arabic astronomers
during the medieval Islam period.

Wen Jie in the SpaceBed ...
In large aircraft such as B747 and B777,
we have crew bunks for cabin crew
to rest and sleep during long haul flight.
So does in a rocket.
However, we can lay down horizontally in aircraft,
but that is totally opposite in space station.
We have to sleep vertically!!
I don't think I can sleep in such a way.
Lolz :)

Space Ball ...
You are entitled to try this Space Ball
with the purchase of the entry ticket.
It is only allowed to children above 12 years old,
below that, no no,
you are prohibited.
This Space Ball will be spun up to
few revolutions per minute
by a trainer from the centre,
manually by hands!!
Haha :)

Experience the gyroscopic effects in this Space Ball
Managed to freeze the rotating motion with my camera.
One of my friends in action,
hope he doesn't feel any dizziness
Turn turn, turn faster!!

I capture the Earth's picture from Moon ...

... and I jump on Moon too
I am floating
Haha ;)

Overall, the trip was a fruitful one
Most the pictures I had there
were not up to the bar,
most probably due to
low light condition.
Furthermore, I was not armed
with a flash gun too.
My apology.

Thanks to Ewin and Daniel for
giving me a ride.
